A guide for spring cleaning & decluttering 🌼
Non-toxic cleaning products, a recycling program for your old linens, and a reframe on "decluttering"
Good Digs is a design and decor newsletter from The Good Trade. Every other Thursday, one of our editors pulls back the curtain on their space, inspirations, and reflections on home.
💌 A letter from our editor, Grace
Spring is officially here in Los Angeles! It's a joyful combination of dewy in the mornings, sunny during the day, and cool enough for a light jacket in the evenings. The "spring cleaning" bug is also here. Cleaning out my guest room closet and going through my junk drawers have been sitting on my to-do list for a long time... but finally, over the weekend, I felt energized to get to work.
And if I'm being honest, the work is not done: I write this to you with a pile of laundry on my bed, a "donate" bag in my car, and one more closet to go through. But it feels good for the project to be underway. Here's a peek at my living room: one of the only places in the house that looks clean and tidy right now.

To me, decluttering has impacts far beyond your physical space. Your home is an outward expression of you! The little nooks and crannies you’ve been avoiding, that are stuffed with junk that needs to be looked at, are not unlike the process of caring for your inner world.
Whether it’s feeling your feelings, setting boundaries, having a hard conversation, or letting go of something that’s been causing you stress, decluttering makes space for the life you really want to emerge. For the one that’s aligned with who you are today to come forward… Even plants can’t grow without space for their roots to expand.
So here’s how I’m decluttering this week and freshening up my space to reflect more of who I am now.
Getting started with cleaning supplies – I’ve been loving the Koala Eco Bestseller Collection, it smells amazing and includes everything from kitchen cleaner to floor cleaner. It’s “Made Safe” non-toxic certified, vegan, and with every bottle sold, they donate to 1% For The Planet.
For my organization systems, I’m grabbing some new storage bins. This guide of non-toxic storage bins and containers has been my go-to.
I dropped off at least 20 old towels and linens at Parachute for their recycling program. This is a win for many reasons – it declutters my space, I have peace of mind it’s being responsibly recycled, and I get 15% off my next order… So I replaced all of my towels with 6 super soft organic plush bath towels.
I wouldn’t be able to drop into the decluttering flow without a good audiobook. I’m listening to Liz Tran’s new book: AQ: A New Kind of Intelligence for a World That's Always Changing.
I’ve been traveling and sadly had a few dead outdoor plants that needed to be composted and replaced. I live in Los Angeles, so I decided to opt for succulents (pictured above) – much easier to care for in LA. Now my patio is feeling alive and green again!
Speaking of the patio – I’ve been eyeing the sustainable outdoor dining tables from MasayaCo. I work from home, and with a little intentionality in designing my outdoor space, I could be working al fresco most days! I’d also love to take my calls from their beautiful outdoor rocking chair.
I love the little upgrades that make your space feel fresh without having to do a full design project. My new favorite aesthetically pleasing, non-toxic hand soap is from EvolveTogether in the scent Monaco… and as a side note, I LOVE their deodorant too.
Lastly, my work uniform. I’m wearing the most comfy shorts and tee from Jungmaven – one of our favorite sustainable brands. And I’ve been throwing on my Rothy’s Clogs for many trips up and down the stairs to the recycling bins.
I hope this inspires you to get cleaning – it feels so good!
xx Grace
